About Tesni

Tesni Jones is a Welsh soprano, and First-Class graduate (2021) of the Royal Northern College of Music, in Manchester. In her final year of study, Tesni was kindly awarded the 2021 Music Award by the North Wales committee of the Livery Company of Wales, a programme in place to financially help and support young people throughout Wales, allowing them to develop their musical talents and skills.

It was at the RNCM that Tesni made her 2019 opera debut as a chorus member in The Pilgrim’s Progress (Vaughn Williams), followed by the RNCM’s 2020 production of The Cunning Little Vixen (Janáĉek), in which Tesni was cast to cover the roles of Cricket and Frantík. She also enjoyed participating in multiple opera scenes performances while studying at the college, including the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Mozart) 2020, and the role of Aminta in Il Re Pasore (Mozart) 2021. For her final performance as an undergraduate at the RNCM Tesni was selected to perform in the RNCM’s adaptation of The Fairy Queen (Purcell).

Also while studying at the college Tesni was twice selected as a member of the RNCM Songsters, a team of sixteen singers and accompanists specialising in song repertoire based in Manchester. In July of 2019 Tesni first performed as a Songster in Manchester's city-centre St. Ann's church as a lunchtime recital soloist. Subsequently, in March of 2020, Tesni performed with the Songsters as a soloist in the I Hear America Singing evening concert held in the Carole Nash Recital Room as part of the RNCM’s prestigious annual Chamber Music Festival.

Tesni was selected as a Young Artist by Waterperry Opera for their 2023 summer festival. This experience included performing as a chorus member in the company’s production of Carmen (Bizet) as well as partaking in the festival’s YA Gala in which she performed pieces from Orlando (Handel), The Magic Flute and Idomeneo (Mozart), and L'incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi) as well as her first principal role; Geraldine, in A Hand of Bridge (Samuel Barber). This experience gave Tesni first-hand insight to the fast-paced, creative, and collaborative nature of a professional rehearsal room and has inspired her to continue seeking out these types of performance opportunities as the entire experience bought her so much joy and fulfilment.

Tesni very much enjoys performing regularly back home in Wales. She has had many successes at the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol over the years including being awarded 1st place in the Girls' Solo aged 16 - under 19 competitions in both 2016 and 2017 as well as being chosen to compete in the Gwobr Goffa Osborne Roberts on the Millennium Centre stage in Cardiff and being the Ysgoloriaeth Goffa Violet Mary Lewis for the most promising soprano performance in 2018. In 2022 Tesni was awarded 2nd position in the Soprano Solo aged 19 - under 25. She was subsequently invited to attend a vocal master class with Welsh Soprano, Rhian LoisTesni has been invited multiple times as a soloist to perform in the North Wales International Music festival, held annually in the St. Asaph Cathedral. Notable moments include performing Dilys Elwyn Edward's song cycle "Caneuon Y Tri Aderyn", performing as a soloist alongside Trelawnyd Male Voice choir and Côr Cytgan Clwyd, performing the Duetto buffo di due gatti/ The Cat Duet (Rossini) alongside the festival's Music Director, mezzo-soprano Ann Atkinson and being invited to perform as the Guest Soloist at the 2022 launch concert celebrating the Festival's 50th year.

Currently based in Manchester and working as an Placement Coordinator at the Royal Northern College of Music, Tesni feels very privileged to be able to continue working towards a career in music, and she very much looks forward to all the future has to offer!
